Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Roberto Tostado M.D., Founder of The IBODY, located in San Marino, CA, USA.
What’s your business, and who are your customers?
The IBODY wellness center cuts to the chase when it comes to being healthy. I left traditional medicine many years ago, tired of managing disease with drugs to shift into healing and preventing disease. I personally had weight issues and felt tired all the time, and I found that my eating habits and lifestyle led to my poor health. Our clinic gets to the root cause of what many people are struggling with today with increasing weight problems, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, bad eating habits, slow metabolism, imbalanced hormones, and frustration with our medical system that pushes more and more prescriptions without addressing the reasons why people are feeling so crappy even if they try to eat better and exercise. We specifically get a blueprint of your fat-burning physiology so that our clients clearly understand why they don’t look or feel better. It’s not about dieting or popping pills to become healthy, but having the knowledge of your personal metabolism to shift your body from fat storing to utilizing fat as energy and preventing disease. At our IBODY center, we help transform our patients through removing toxins from the body, reestablishing a normal metabolism, and balancing the fat-burning hormones with completely natural approaches that POSITIVELY impact your mind and body within a few weeks. I healed myself with nutrition, not dieting, and getting my metabolism back in order. We can help you do the same at The IBODY.
Tell us about yourself
I wrote a book called “WTF is wrong with our health,” a rebel physician’s manifesto for reversing disease and increasing smiles. I speak honestly with a few “f” words to make my f*ing point about the current state of our medical system and food industry, which have created chronic disease that is not slowing down. This country is 80% overweight and obese, let that sink in. Just look at the past two pandemic years where metabolic disease (like obesity) was exposed as the primary reason that people succumbed to covid. Instead of educating society on nutrition and immune-boosting foods and vitamins, we were just told to stay home and wash our hands and order take-out—not a recipe for health; we only became sicker and more anxious as a global community. All this to say that creating a business that empowers and educates patients to live a life of energy and quality was my motivation to open our wellness center to focus on the underlying reasons that we are unhealthy as a society and not just mask symptoms with endless medication. I am driven to help people take control of their health to become stronger and not accept what doctors typically describe as “normal for your age” as normal. We have become a generation of degeneration, and it is my mission to reverse this negative trend to create a space to help regenerate people back to a fulfilling life with a positive mindset and healthy body.
What’s your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Helping clients transform by simply shedding light on what heals the body. As a physician, I had envisioned preventing disease and restoring health, but my medical training taught me to prescribe drugs rather than heal. As the founder of the IBODY, along with my wife Teresa, who is a Nurse Practitioner and graduate of culinary school, we integrated the medical and culinary sciences to create detox products that are whole organic food-based take-home kits that we apply at our clinic daily to help prevent and reverse disease… and increase smiles 🙂
What’s one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
When you are passionate about something and know that in your heart and mind that you are on the path to something great but still have those that do not want better for themselves. Many times I’ve thought with humor that I know exactly what Moses or Buddha must have felt speaking the truth about a better life, but many decided not to listen and stay in the dark. Over the years, I’ve come to realize that you have to choose to be healthy. The challenge in our business is to educate and enlighten our clients for a much healthier life, but only if they make a choice to want to be healthy.
What are the top tips you’d give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Knowing it’s going to be difficult and frustrating, but three tips that I’ve applied are being passionate about your business, being authentic about what you represent to the world, and persistence… it ain’t easy owning a business, but it can be quite fulfilling!
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
If there is an investor interested in taking our business model of helping people lose toxic weight and improve their health from their own kitchen with a digital app. that makes eliminating toxins, boosting metabolism, and improving health a fun venture, please reach out so that we can create a WellVerse in these post- pandemic times where trends are showing that people want to learn about nutrition, lose weight, sleep better and look better— everything we do at the IBODY— to bring to the home. Health begins in the kitchen, not the doctor’s office.
